Adsorption is the adhesion of atoms, ions, or molecules from a gas, liquid, or dissolved solid to a surface. Adsorbent surface can selectively adsorb different adsorbates thus separation can be achieved. Adsorption process can be described by isotherms such as linear isotherms, Langmuir isotherms or Freundlich isotherms.
